Initially associated with Polynesia woven Coir/Coconut rugs are gaining popularity as a hardwearing natural floorcovering throughout Europe. Coir is extracted from the Coconut, the fibre being found between the hard, internal shell and the outer coat. In these rugs Crucial Trading have used only the hand extracted imature lighter brown fibres that are softer, more flexible and easier to weave.
There are natural variations in the yarn diameters that add to the charm of the finished rug. Being a hygroscopic fibre Coir can absorb water under humid conditions so it is advisable to avoid areas of high
moisture. Coir reacts to moisture by expanding which can lead to the floorcovering wrinkling and buckling. When discharging moisture Coir shrinks.
