Seagrass comes from the coastal regions of China and India and is grown in paddy fields. These fields need a flooding of sea-water during its crop cycle. Seagrasses are flowering plants that have adapted to living completely submerged in water. Growing from horizontal underground stems, or rhizomes, seagrass leaves push up vertically and can reach heights of several metres depending on species and surrounding conditions.
Seagrass area rugs are relatively non-absorbent and hard. They are stain resistant and dirt is easily brushed loose from them. Seagrass area rugs have a non-porous surface that gives it a naturally smooth texture and sheen quality. Its rigidity gives it natural durability. Seagrass rugs compliment a low dust, allergy free, naturally humid environment. We would recommend having ITEC stain inhibitor applied to your rug at the factory. This ensures that every fibre is protected by a polymer shield resisting stains and dirt and helping to prolong the life of your rug.
